REACH has been active at the regional level in West Africa since 2009, with the support of a Regional Facilitator, who was based in Dakar at UNICEF's Regional Office and funded by multiple sources (e.g. DFID, ECHO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) over the years. In 2014, this REACH presence transitioned into a REACH country engagement. The International Facilitator is now hosted by the World Food Programme Country Office and works closely with both UN colleagues and counterparts at the national nutrition coordination platform (Cellule de Lutte contre la Malnutrition). Thanks to the generous support of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), REACH Senegal is engaged in a range of activities on nutrition governance, with a focus on the following objectives.

Senegal Objectives:

  • Raise awareness of the nutrtition situation and build consensus on the best strategies and priorities for improvement amongst relevant stakeholders;
  • Reinforce national nutrition policies, plans and programmes which integrate and operationalize key nutrition actions through a multi-sectoral approach;
  • Strengthen all levels of human and institutional capacity on nutrition actions, including those of key ministries;
  • Increase effectiveness and accountability amongst stakeholders concerned with the implementation and support of nutrition actions.
