Myanmar initiated REACH in 2015, making it one of three REACH countries in Asia. A REACH exploratory mission was conducted in early 2015, with REACH analytical support mobilized soon thereafter. These efforts were reinforced with the recruitment of an International REACH Facilitator in August, who is working closely with the SUN government focal point and UN colleagues to strengthen multi-sectoral nutrition action, including the formulation of a new national action plan for food and nutrition security. A National Facilitator was appointed in November. Both Facilitators are currently hosted by the WFP Country Office. The REACH engagement in Myanmar is funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and is focused on the following objectives:

REACH Myanmar Objectives:

  • Raise awareness of the nutrition situation and build consensus on the best strategies and priorities for improvement amongst relevant stakeholders;
  • Reinforce national nutrition policies, plans and programmes which integrate and operationalize key nutrition actions through a multi-sectoral approach;
  • Strengthen all levels of human and institutional capacity on nutrition actions, including those of key ministries;
  • Increase effectiveness and accountability amongst stakeholders concerned with the implementation and support of nutrition actions.
